Formed by dividing all possible principal diagnoses (from ICD-9-CM) into 25 mutually exclusive diagnosis areas. Sometimes known as Major Diagnosis Category. In 3M's Clinical Risk Grouping software, this is the highest level category assigned to each patient condition (less granular than both EDC or DSG).
